SP Jain School of Global Management’s alumni based in Singapore came together on campus to interact with the Master of Global Business (MGB) and Global MBA (GMBA) students. They shared their personal experiences and new industry insights to help reduce the students’ anxiety about graduating in a post-COVID business world.
After a year of attending online workshops and virtual sessions, the students were excited to meet the alumni in person and have one-on-one discussions. The event began by welcoming the alumni and introducing them to the students. Adhering to the social distancing restrictions, they greeted each other with a ‘namaste’. The students and alumni split into smaller groups according to their specialisations (Contemporary Marketing Management, Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Global Finance) for personalised interaction.
During the discussion, the alumni shared their placement experiences and how they built their networks while seeking employment opportunities. They advised students to foster meaningful relationships and be genuine while networking on LinkedIn or attending networking events. They also spoke about the current employment scenario in Singapore and shared tips to prepare for job interviews.
The mixer was a great opportunity for students to build new connections and learn more about kickstarting their careers after graduating from SP Jain.
Here are some key insights shared by the alumni:
“Each market will have its own unique experience. Now, more than ever, corporates have realised how important it is to manage their supply chains. All this while supply chain as a domain was on the back burner and now building resilience has become the key. For job seekers, it is important to be flexible and receptive to the opportunities that come, which will set the foundation for their career growth. The focus should be on the kind of experience that you want to have.”
- Vineet Thomas

“It is crucial to tailor your CV to the kind of job you are seeking. Be flexible to roles and opportunities that come your way because, in the end, it boils down to how you can leverage your theoretical knowledge to your work experience. Companies look for people who are adaptable and flexible to different projects and roles.”
