During my time in Singapore, I wanted to take part in the marathon there. Unfortunately, I couldn’t because we had an exam scheduled the day after the marathon. I happened to once tell one of our professors, Dr. William Thomson, about my interest in running and how I was thinking of running a marathon. He told me how I should consider running the Sydney marathon since it was scheduled to take place while I was in Sydney and there were no exams scheduled close to the date of the marathon.

As I find myself jotting down my experiences from the past year, I realise how quickly time had passed by, and how unique my Master of Global Business (MGB) experience was at SP Jain School of Global Management. My story started on January 9, 2016, when I first moved to Singapore. Before this, I was working as a vet and an export technical manager of a pharmaceutical company based in Italy. Having completed my PhD in Veterinary Medicine, my studies opened several lucrative doors for me in the agro-zoo-veterinary sector. However, my goal was to start managing a leading organisation and increase their performance, and I had absolutely no experience in this area.

Four hours – that’s how long it took for us to get to the Liwa camp site. We did not know the beauty that lay ahead of us. Coming into university, all of us assumed it would be a lot of studies with no free time. However, at SP Jain, we’re able to learn about culture and business through various activities and excursions. One such trip that taught us a lot was the Overnight Liwa Desert Camping held between 19th – 20th January 2018.

Playing around improving the office layout and working with the CEO to redesign the website – my internship with F5 Escapes – Bangalore was way more than just fun. Working in a start-up offered me flexibility and provided me with a platform to showcase my ideas and work upon them. F5 Escapes works with the mission of redefining the way women travel in India by offering fixed and customised tours for women. They strive to change India’s image as an unsafe destination for women into a women friendly nation. Working with the founders who were all female showed me that passion and determination can take you places and it takes just a spark to make a change and then everything else follows.
