On 24th May 2018, Postgraduate students specialising in Global Finance interacted with Mr. Yogesh Kale - Head of Corporate banking of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) to discuss an overview of the Banking sector in the UAE, Islamic Banking, Risk Management and career scope in this region among other topics. The session was conducted as part of Global Learning at the SP Jain Dubai campus.
Mr. Kale, who is the Head of corporate banking of ADCB bank, not only shared his insights on the banking structure in UAE, but spoke about how he started his career and moved to corporate banking. He also addressed queries on the economy’s dependency on oil and gas in UAE.
Being in the final term of the tri-city postgraduate degree, students were keen to learn about the industry market and the possible opportunities that exist in UAE banks. Mr. Kale further provided insights on the different types of banks students can focus on such as private banking, corporate banking and mid-corporate banks. He shared an understanding of how sophistication would vary in different banks. This discussion intrigued the class more and all of them were interested to understand more on the services offered by these banks.
The session was very informative and helped the students understand the structure of UAE banks.
“It was interesting to compare financial systems from the other cities we studied in. We learnt how treasury functions in the local banks, working capital facilities, real estate loans and one of the most important reason why Dubai’s real estate is flourishing is because of the support and money lent by these banks for infrastructure development.” - Nidhi Shah, Student, MGB Intake of Sept’17
“Most of us as students of finance know how international banks work and always wondered how Islamic banks are different from these conventional banks. Mr. Yogesh gave us a clear picture on major differentiators between these banks. He explained the structure of the UAE banks and impact of Dubai’s economy on these banks.” - Sneha Nagaraju, Student, GMBA Intake of Sept’17
