Dr Shalini Chandra: Building Trust in Virtual Collaborations by Social Presence

She talks about how virtual interactions lack the physical indications present in face-to-face communication, making it challenging to establish trust. She further emphasises that social presence projects warmth, understanding, and attentiveness in online interactions and plays a crucial role in building trust among team members.

Dr Chandra writes, “However, with the transition from 2-D online web pages to 3-D VW web places, where virtual users can display facial expressions and emotions and interact with a sense of colocation, socialness present in VWs is the key to reducing uncertainties. Socialness closely corresponds to “social presence” for virtual interacting members.”
