Course Structure
The Undergraduate Certificate of Data Science is designed to provide foundational knowledge, skills and their application at an Undergraduate certificate level in the field of Information Technology.
Curriculum
The course covers the following four units from Year 1 of the Bachelor of Data Science course:
Learn the basis of key mathematical topics to build the analytical, technical and communication skills a Data Scientist should have
- Develop the foundational skill set required to write and code computer programs
- Learn the basics of editing and running programs, testing and debugging strategies
- Understand the key concepts in programming including variable types, control structures and software quality assurance processes
- Use R and Python to support your learning
- Learn database concepts and the general skills for designing and using datasets
- Explore relational database concepts and associated techniques
- Examine SQL (Structured Query Language), a language which is used for communicating with and extracting data from databases
- Gain an understanding of data science and the various activities and tasks a data scientist performs
- Explore the application of data science in business
- Apply the newly acquired skills and knowledge in practical activities and projects
Gain hands-on experience
The Undergraduate Certificate of Data Science involves significant practical training where you will learn to write code that solves common data-related problems.
Projects you will undertake:
- Take a dataset from Kaggle and make multiple machine learning models
- Build a database on an SQL engine for saving and querying data
- Build a statistical project using SAS JMP
Practical skills you will gain:
- Learn to apply popular libraries such as NumPy and Pandas written in Python
- Learn SAS JMP for statistics

Have a foundational understanding of data science and the techniques for data analysis, including programming and responding to queries and tasks.

Develop inquiry and quantitative skills to solve mathematical problems and data sets, and demonstrate skills to develop computer programs to dissect data.

Arrive at reliable, well-structured and innovative solutions for data interpretation.

Collaborate effectively to design programs for data analysis and prepare and present technical reports on methodology, analysis and solutions.

Apply foundational, theoretical and technical knowledge and skills to provide responsible data solutions for a broad set of identified business scenarios
How will you be assessed?
Your assessment will include practical exercises, individual reports/project report, building and interpreting data sets and databases, group project report, presentation for business decision-making, and mid-term and final exams.

Admission Requirements
We are currently accepting applications for the September 2023 intake. We’ve gathered everything you would need for a seamless application process.
Academic Eligibility Requirements
All applicants are expected to have completed a minimum of 12 years of schooling demonstrated by one or more of the following:
- Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education authorised by a relevant state-based issuing agency with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or its interstate equivalent of 70; or
- Completion of an accredited vocational education and training (VET) qualification at Diploma or Advanced Diploma level completed at an ASQA registered training organisation (RTO); or
- All India Senior School Certificate (issued by CBSE) or the India School Certificate (ISC) with a score of 60% or the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Year 12 exam from the Indian State Board with a score of 70% or more; or
- International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) score of 24 or more; or
- Completion of an international qualification where the content, level and intended outcomes are deemed to be equivalent to any of the above through official qualification recognition register or mapping of equivalence by the School.
In lieu of the above, completion of a minimum of 11 years of schooling for the nine Commonwealth of International States (CIS) countries subject to a minimum CGPA score of 4.00 out of 5.00 issued by the National Board in these countries.
English Language Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must have completed their education as detailed above in English and must provide certified evidence to the School.
Applicants who have not completed their most recent education qualifications in English are required to take any of the following recognised formal English language tests and obtain currently valid minimum scores as below:
- IELTS score of 6; or
- TOEFL iBT score of 60; or
- PTE score of 50

Note: It is not necessary to have the Year 12 results in hand at the time of application. In case the Year 12 results are not in hand, shortlisted students will be offered conditional admission to the program.
Entrance Test Score Requirements
All applicants that meet the eligibility requirements must take one of the following tests and obtain the minimum test score as specified below to be evaluated for admission:

We shortlist potential applicants based on:
- Past academic performance and other achievements
- English language proficiency to ensure successful participation
- Outcomes and scores of aptitude tests
We also consider other factors including:
- Applications for credit and recognition of prior learning
- Equity and Diversity considerations
We will notify you in writing whether your application has been shortlisted or not.
As part of the final stage of applicant evaluation, all shortlisted applicants will be required to write two essays and undertake a personal interview with a member of the School's selection committee at the School's campus or via Skype/Zoom. The essays and interview are designed to assess your communication skills, aptitude and knowledge.
Approximately a week after the evaluation interview, you will be notified about your result in writing by the Admission’s Office.

Students who do not satisfactorily complete a subject may have an opportunity to repeat the subject via independent studies or may be asked to take retests. The exact fees for independent studies, retests, etc. are set out in the Student Handbook and are listed below.

We estimate that one would spend around AUD 700 per month on living costs (food and travel). This amount is subjective to the individual’s lifestyle.
Payment Details
- Registration fees are payable as per the due date given in this offer letter.
- Where a student chooses, more than 50% of tuition fees can be paid before the course commences.
- All other fees are to be paid prior to the commencement of the course/academic year.
- The school shall levy interest @ 15% p.a. for all fees received after the due date
