BUILD THE SKILLS TO DRIVE INNOVATION WITH DATA SCIENCE
In today’s age of rapid digitisation, data science programs have emerged as a driving force behind groundbreaking decisions, innovations, and advancements. From identifying emerging trends and addressing challenges to unlocking unforeseen opportunities, data analytics has redefined organisational operations and strategies. Strategic use of data contributes to the advancement of economic and social progress encourages competition, nurtures innovation, and enhances overall productivity and consumer satisfaction.
SP Jain’s Bachelor of Data Science (BDS) is an Australian-accredited three-year full-time program designed to ensure that students understand the intricacies of data and can translate them into actionable insights. The Data Science program curriculum strongly emphasises mathematical principles and industry-specific theories, delving deeply into the hands-on side of data science. Through capstone projects, immersive practical experiences, and guidance from world-class faculty, students graduate with the expertise to navigate the complexities of this evolving field.
Note: This Bachelor of Data Science course is not permitted to be offered in Singapore by Skills Future Singapore Agency (SSG). It is not accredited or approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or any regulatory body in India and is not accredited by the Ministry of Education (MOE), UAE.
Upon completing your Bachelor of Data Science degree, you may be able to continue to live and work in Australia by applying for a post-study work visa of up to 2 years*
*As an international student, you may be able to continue to live and work in Australia temporarily following the completion of your undergraduate degree at SP Jain. While graduating students can apply for a post-study work visa of up to 2 years per the current immigration guidelines, it is not a guaranteed program outcome. Please check the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs website regularly for eligibility, more information and updates.
Throughout my internship, the one aspect that constantly stood out for me was the level at which we were able to apply the knowledge we gained in our SP Jain classrooms to the project. I believe that the academic structure of the BDS program has equipped us with everything essential to succeed in this role. Our curriculum focussed a lot on machine learning and data visualisation methods, and these are concepts that we could apply to my research first-hand, helping us gain favourable results.
I am currently working as a Digital Business Analyst Intern at AI Australia. I'll be participating in developing some digital software like ChatBot and Smart Recommendation Systems that already existed in the system using Python built-in libraries, C#, and .NET Framework. I will have a chance to collaborate with the professional team of AI Australia for 6 months and get familiar with Microsoft Azure services since the company has a strong partnership with Microsoft. The school's curriculum is very practical with a hands-on approach and I believe that the training I got at SP Jain is what helped me land this internship at AI Australia just after my Year 1.
SP Jain is an industry leader and the BDS program offered by the school is beyond great. We are taught by top globally renowned faculty who are experts in the field. The program is extremely well designed and I am confident that it will help develop me into a quality data scientist.
Across the span of 3 years, I have interned at 5 organisations across different countries.
Data Science is a very niche field which also makes it a highly competitive profession. Being a good data scientist requires one to be good at mathematics, statistics, and problem-solving. This degree has laid the foundation of data science which is helping me grasp more concepts and apply them to solve problems.
At SP Jain, we learnt logical coding, MongoDB and data exploration that proved to be the most useful. The absolute important thing is self-improvement – to study new things and figure out how to solve problems. The BDS program helped us understand how to handle datasets and problem-solving.
As a Business System Engineer at Nexon, I’m responsible for designing, developing and maintaining applications software and integrations for internal solutions. We got to know about this job opportunity through Professor Aditya Narvekar (Assistant Professor – Data Science, SP Jain). The interview was rigorous and focused on logical thinking, industrial knowledge and technical knowledge.
The highlight of SP Jain’s BDS program has been the hands-on experience we get apart from the classroom learning. I chose this program because of the School’s accomplished faculty and strong industry connections. The program curriculum is brilliantly structured and includes everything one would need to build a career in technology.
I’m currently working as a software developer intern at Adaptive Investment Solutions. I was offered this opportunity in August 2020 and was introduced to the team at Adaptive by Prof Aditya Narvekar and Prof Abhijit Dasgupta. The skills I learnt at SP Jain formed a strong foundation and helped me hold my own during the initial days of the internship.

I’m interning with Adaptive for three months as a software engineer. I’m working and learning as a front-end developer, along with other developers, and in charge of any processes/developments relating to the user interfaces of an application on both website and mobile platforms.
In the third semester, we had a subject called data visualisation in which I learnt about using React JS from scratch. This course has been really helpful and I could utilise it throughout my internship. The internship has helped me improve my coding skills in JavaScript/ReactJS, which wasn’t my strength at the beginning, and broadened my horizon about web-based and mobile-based application development.

Data science graduates enjoy diverse career opportunities across various industries. In addition to roles in tech companies, opportunities extend to fields such as Finance (Quantitative Analyst), Healthcare (Clinical Data Analyst), Marketing (Digital Marketing Analyst), and Cybersecurity (Security Analyst).
The versatility of data science skills also opens doors to entrepreneurship and consultancy roles, where data-driven decision making is crucial for business success.
While both data science and analysis deal with extracting insights from data, they differ in scope and methodology. Data Analysts typically focus on analysing historical data to identify trends and create reports, often using business intelligence tools.
Data scientists, on the other hand, use a broader range of techniques including machine learning, statistical modelling, and predictive analytics to not only analyse past data but also to forecast future trends and create data-driven solutions to complex problems.
Given its increasing demand and broad future potential across tech companies, consulting firms, market research organisations, and the energy sector, a degree in data science has become highly sought after by students across the globe.
Popular career options for data science graduates include roles such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Engineer, and AI Specialist.
