When asked whether he misses his very successful days playing cricket for Australia, Glenn McGrath does not hesitate in his response.“I don’t miss playing cricket”, he said in his address to Bachelor of Business graduates from the S P Jain School of Global Management in Sydney. “I have a lot more time to spend with my family.” Interestingly he shared that his son is a budding fast bowler.

McGrath also shared some advice to the graduates about venturing into the workforce.

“You have to have self-belief. A lot of people in my hometown didn’t have faith in my cricket ability when I was growing up. You should have seen the look on their face when I decided to leave for Sydney to play in an even more competitive cricket league. Without self-belief I never would have moved to pursue my career.”

The words of wisdom werevery relevant for the S P Jain graduates that represent 15 countries including Argentina, Canada, UK, India, China and several other countries. In addition to working in Australia, many have chosen to begin their business careers in lucrative overseas postings due to the global exposure they have acquired in their studies. S P Jain’s global career service has connected the graduates to leading companies around the world.

S P Jain's Graduation ceremony

President of S P Jain, Nitish Jain, described the Class of 2015 graduates as gifted and fortunate to receive the global education that the course offers. “You are far more capable than what you realise. So decide today that you wish to make a difference to the entire world we live in.”

The ceremony was a perfect sight of excited students most of whom had their parents travelling from far and wide to be with them on their special day. Whilst feeling nostalgic to end their adventure with S P Jain, were excited to now be a part of the global S P Jain alumni community.

So what were McGrath’s other pieces of advice for success? “Work hard and have a strong work ethic. Always look to improve and be the best you can. And don’t forget to have fun along the way.”
