Dr Rajiv Aserkar (Professor, Director - DAMCO Int' Graduate Program and Area Head - Logistics and Supply Chain Management), SP Jain Global, in Maritime Gateway, discusses the burgeoning opportunities in India's logistics and supply chain industry while highlighting how many students at junior college and degree levels are unaware of the industry's potential.
He discusses how educational institutions must adapt swiftly to market demands with dynamic curricula to prepare students effectively. Looking ahead, the industry's demand is projected to favour skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning for tasks like demand forecasting, inventory optimisation, route planning, and process improvement.
He concludes by saying, “Soon we will be seeing digitisation of manufacturing facilities, transportation fleets, material handling equipment and other physical assets on a large scale. If the students have acquired the desired skills as required by the industry, they should not face difficulties in finding good jobs in logistics and supply chain management. In fact, manufacturing, services, e-commerce and consulting organisations are reporting a talent gap to bridge their requirements.”
